Peristil

Having passed through the cellars, you will arrive on Peristil, a central square in the palace in front of the cathedral of saint Domnius. It is a place where the emperor used to address the citizens. Peristil is also a border line between the emperor's chambers and the parts inhabited by soldiers and citizens. It is characterized by high pillars connected by arcs and two sphinxes brought from Egypt. On the emperor's side ere also the temple of Jupiter, Venus and Kibela that can be visited even today, while on the other side a cathedral of saint Domnius, protector of the city, was build in the medieval period.. There is also a mausoleum in which the bodies of Diocletian and his wife Periska were placed. Mausoleum has a octagonal shape, but from the inside it has a circular form. Cathedral also has a magnificent tower, a doorway made in 13. century made by Andrija Buvina with the engraved scenes from Christ' life, and a magnificent stone pulpit from 13th century.
