On the western side of the coast there is a church and a Franciscan monastery of saint Frane from 13th century in which the bodies of croatian writer Marko Marulić and historian Toma Arhiđakon are buried.
If you go uphill the street Šperun, you will find yourself in an original dalmatian environment with narrow streets, low stone houses, red roofs and taverns. If you take Senjska Street upwards, you will arrive to a hill popularly called the view since from there one can have a magnificent view on the whole city and nearby islands. Here you can enjoy the sight while having your morning coffee, or continue the walk through Marjan hill, towards the church of saint Nicolas from 13.century. The stairs nearby will take you to the Museum of science and the Zoo.
